This investigation started as a result of a Facebook post where Hammond posted a picture of the dead dog with comments. Hammond was contacted by Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit of the Sheriff’s Office. During the course of the investigation it was determined that the incident occurred in Clifton, part of rural Washington Parish.
On January 14, 2016, Todd Hammond, 699 Hwy 275, Tylertown, Ms., was arrested at the Washington Parish Sheriff Office for Aggravated Animal Cruelty. He was also issued a Hunting violation for hunting without a license by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Hammond cooperated in the investigation and made full admissions to hunting in Louisiana without a license and also to shooting a dog that was on his food plot. Hammond was remorseful for his actions. The owner of the dog has not been located.
“The abuse of animals is not to be taken lightly. The Sheriff's office takes animal cruelty seriously, and anybody who witnesses behavior like this should contact the Sheriff's office," said Sheriff Randy Seal.
Sheriff Seal continued, “Any person with knowledge of any crime is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office at (985) 839-3434 and report what they know. The partnership between our office and our residents is an important tool in solving crime in our parish.”
